F*ck, That's Vegan?! #15

15. "Sundae Fun-dae"

If you forgot we were still talkin' old school ice cream parlors in FTV?! this week, well.. here we are. The second sweet shop hailed as one of the world's best in F*ck, That’s Delicious is Chicago's Margie's Candies. The legendary 100 year old confectionery makes a multitude of sundaes (over 50 types!!!), some served in huge shell-shaped bowls!

Visit Margie's hoping to indulge in a vegan sundae, and sadly you're going to leave with an empty belly. Use that knowledge as an excuse to try and understand a small part of the reason why it's such a beloved place by treating yourself (and some people you're willing to share with) to this giagantic Margie's style ice cream creation!! Please be warned that there are no guarantees this sundae will taste as good if it's not eaten out of a giant shell bowl.

If you had to make every single element of this by hand, it would probably take all the enjoyment out of the experience. So instead, phone in your favorite vegan ice cream and get excited for quick but craveable caramel and chocolate topping recipes!

Too good not to share.

FTV?! Sundae:

15 scoops of vegan ice cream*
3 cups vegan whipped cream
banana, sliced in half
caramel sauce
chocolate fudge
maraschino cherries
sugar wafer cookies*

*If you're lucky enough to have local vegan ice cream near you, use a few pints of that.
*Many sugar wafers (rectanglar wafer cookies) are vegan, just be sure to check the ingredients before buying!

Caramel Sauce:

1//3 cup coconut sugar
1 cup non-dairy milk
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp vegan butter
1/8 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate Fudge:

1/2 cup maple syrup
3 tbsp cocoa powder
1/8 tsp salt

Caramel Sauce:

Add coconut sugar, non-dairy milk, and salt to a small saucepan. Over medium heat, bring to a simmer and whisk every few minutes until mixture is thick and dark (15-20 mins total). Remove from heat and whisk in butter and vanilla extract. Allow to cool for topping your sundae.

Chocolate Fudge:

Whisk together maple syrup, cocoa powder, and salt until there are no clumps left. Add more cocoa powder to thicken as desired.

Sundae Assembly:

Add fifteen scoops of ice cream to a huge bowl. Top with whipped cream. Place banana in bowl on both sides of the ice cream. Pour your caramel and chocolate over the sundae. Drop your preferred amount of cherries on top of everything. Dig into your sundae with the sugar wafer cookies!

YEAH, it's melting! What's it to ya?
